Types of Machining Operations Gear Head Lathe Machine

Time : 2026-06-30
The SUMORE SN71C, C6251 and C6256 gear head lathes are heavy-duty conventional metal turning lathes built for stable, high-precision machining. Equipped with robust cast iron bed, full gear shifting headstock and intuitive manual operation panels, they support a complete range of turning processes for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Widely applied in machinery repair, auto spare parts, pipe fitting processing, mold blank machining and general workshop production.

Types of machining operations:

  • External turning: Machining outer cylindrical surfaces, outer circular steps and outer tapered contours to meet dimensional tolerance requirements.
  • Facing: Processing workpiece end faces to guarantee perpendicularity between end surface and axis.
  • Internal boring: Machining inner holes, inner steps and inner tapered holes of different sizes.
  • Thread turning: Cutting metric, inch, module and pitch internal & external screw threads for bolts, nuts and pipe connectors.
  • Grooving & Parting-off: Cutting external/internal oil grooves, sealing grooves and separating finished workpieces from raw bar stock.
  • Knurling: Creating anti-slip textured patterns on part surfaces for easy manual gripping.
  • Chamfering & Deburring: Beveling sharp edges of shafts and holes, removing residual burrs after turning.
  • Radius turning: Machining arc fillets and curved transitional surfaces on shaft workpieces.
  • Drilling: Mounting drill bits on tailstock to process central holes on shaft parts.
